VINYL APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS
You will need a spray bottle. A small hand
held sprayer will suffice. Add a mix of
water and a small amount of washing up liquid
to the bottle and use for cleaning the glass
and applying the vinyl.
The most critical part of any Window Vinyl
application is the cleaning of the glass
so please take your time and you will reap
the benefits with the finished product.
Use any standard washing up liquid. We
have from experience found the cheaper the
better. Spray the glass using the soap and
water solution and use a standard window
scraper or similar to clean the glass. Ensuring
any dirt or paint etc. is removed.
Using a soft squeegee; similar to the one
used by most window cleaners. Clean the
water off the glass from the top to the
bottom of the pane using this diagram as
a guide. Wipe the glass and surrounding
frame always using lint free cloths or paper
towels (as shown) to remove all of the dirty
water and debris. Lint Free materials ensure
that no static or fibres are created.
Offer the vinyl up to the glass and roughly
cut to size ensuring you leave an overlap
on all four sides.
For trimming the vinyl; use a knife, available
as part of our installation kit or you can
buy something similar from any good DIY
or craft store.
Now begin to peel away the protective,
printed backing material from the vinyl.
Once this has been achieved spray the window
with water and put the vinyl (liner side
out) onto the glass. This will free you
up to be able to remove the remaining liner
whilst spraying the adhesive of the vinyl
at the same time.
Offer the vinyl's adhesive side to the
glass and position in such a way that there
is an equal overlap on all four sides and
following the diagram (right) squeegee using
a soft squeegee to remove some of the water
from between the vinyl and the glass.
Using a sharp and a metal straight edge
trim the overlaps of vinyl leaving a 1-2mm
gap from the frame to allow curing and the
vinyl to sit flat on the glass.
Wet the vinyl again and using your soft
squeegee smooth out some more water using
the same process as before.
When trimming to size on the glass use
a metal edged straight blade against the
frame and trim down between the edge of
the frame and the straight edge keeping
a firm and even pressure on both tools.
Wet the vinyl again with a light spray
of water and soap and from the top, middle
of the glass, using a hard squeegee similar
to these shown apply hard pressure to ensure
as much water is forced out as possible.
Clean around the edges of the vinyl using
the lint free cloth and then using a firm
plastic card wrapped in lint free cloth
force any remaining water out from the last
6" of the edges of the vinyl
If you find bubbles in your vinyl after
application, carefully burst them with a
sharp pin and gently force out the water
or air from behind.
If you crease the vinyl during installation
apply firm pressure with your thumb for
approximately 1 minute and then smooth out.
If this doesn't solve the problem gently
heat the crease with a hairdryer and then
smooth with the firm plastic card covered
in lint free cloth.
